Boosting EU Interregional Collaboration

I4-GREEN unleashes the green innovation power of EU Interregional Ecosystems, reducing EU dependence on imports of Critical Raw Materials and the negative impact on the environment of their mining process.

Overview

I4-GREEN drives and boosts green, circular, and social tech deployment through joint investments, to reduce the EU dependence on imports of Critical Raw Materials and the negative impact on the environment of their extraction and processing.

The I4-GREEN consortium works to unleash the green innovation power of EU Interregional Ecosystems, with the goal of reducing EU dependence on imports of Critical Raw Materials and the negative impact on the environment of their extraction and processing.

I4-GREEN stems from a S3 network and scales into a unique interregional ecosystem, a node for the green transformation of extractive industries and the emergence of an EU sustainable mining value chain.

I4-GREEN Pilots: Transforming Raw Materials Recovery

The I4-GREEN project brought together two groundbreaking pilot initiatives — IHO and ATALAYA / LAIN TECH — that demonstrated the power of circular and sustainable technologies in the extraction of critical raw materials for Europe’s green future.

Through the circular recovery of iron ore and rare earth elements (REEs) in the IHO pilot, and the pioneering E-LIX™ hydrometallurgical process developed in the ATALAYA / LAIN TECH pilot, the project showcased how innovative approaches can reduce environmental impact, extend mine life, and unlock value from previously untapped resources.

Both pilots delivered proven results at industrial scale, contributing to CO₂ emissions reduction, responsible sourcing, and regional job creation, while laying the groundwork for replication across Europe and beyond.
